While planning to go on a vacation or traveling for some work, most of us take travel insurance plans. Do you think that taking an insurance plan is enough? If the insurance company does not give the adequate amount for such goods, you can provide the company with proofs of true market value (for e.g. classifieds and second hand shops). If the company still refuses to pay, you can take it to court.

POLICE REPORTS AND PROOF

The insurance companies will not take your word if your goods are stolen. You have to submit a proof. The proof can be in the form of a police report or a statement from airlines or cruise ship if the incident happened in their territory.

Getting a police report may be troublesome in some countries. You can contact your embassy or consulate in that case. If the country provides travel police, then that will be the best option for you.

The insurance companies will not accept your claim if you left your luggage unattended and it got lost. Nobody however leaves the luggage unattended (except me) but it also includes leaving the luggage unlocked, with someone you don’t know, with the guard at hotels or with tour companies.
